I always look forward to the seafood when I go up to my parent's house on the holidays - in particular the smoked fish (which I know I've praised here before) and calimari (yum!). Since I've gone gluten free it's a little more difficult to join in with family dinner like that when we have seafood. Usually, we had crumbed fish and calimari deep-fried or fish coated in wheat flour and pan-fried.
So, I had to make my own little batch of fish last time, and I coated mine in a mixture of rice flour, salt, pepper and a pinch of whatever spice I found in the pantry (cinnamon? ginger? I can't really remember, haha!).
I did the same with the calimari, which I cut into strips rather than rings, then popped both of them into a hot non-stick pan with a little oil.

Hot Coffee and Iced Chocolate - Guess Which I Had?
Posted under:
Coffee,
Iced chocolate
I know, that's an easy guess if you know me at all. Earlier this month I was on holidays at my parent's house and my mum and I stopped in at 'Coffee & Cream' for a drink while we were shopping. It's pretty much our go-to in Hervey Bay because the service is great, the food/drinks are always delicious and they have these big squishy couches at the back of the store that we always snag. ;)

My First Taste of Zehnder's Gluten Free

It was my birthday a little while ago and as part of my presents my partner surprised me with a package of Zehnder white bread rolls. I saw them the week before in the frozen section of a local supermarket and really wanted to try them. :) It may seem odd to most of you that bread is a treat, but I'm sure the gluten freebies out there know what it's like!
I made beef burgers that night so I could have a proper burger-in-a-bun for the first time in months.

Garden Update: Tomatoes Doing Well, Beans Take Over in a Bloodless Coup

The weather's been alternating between being unpleasantly hot (for me and the plants, although they wilt more obviously) and rainy/drizzly. Most of the plants have stood up pretty well through the heat though and all of them loved the rain. :)
The basil started to flower, but I've been pinching them off so the plant lasts longer. I did this with my last lot of basil and it lasted months. It smells lovely on my hands when I pull the flowers off too. :)

Is that not a beautiful sight? :) There was sweet potato, carrots, red onion, brown onion, pumpkin, capsicum, lemon, orange, tomatoes, peaches, plums, nectarines, corn, rockmelon, bananas, avocado, green apple, red apple and finally, lychees! I didn't stop smiling for the rest of the day. :)
